Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also means he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He defended four initial break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
