Tetris Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
